Friends,
This is a gentle reminder that the new Shelter Challenge has begun and runs January 18 through April 18. Attached is the letter I received from Jeri Dreyer, who runs the Denison, IA City Pound - explaining what she has done with the grants she's received so far and what she plans to do with any new grant money we can help her receive. By placing second in the country during the last round, they received $5,000 - in addition to a $1,000 weekly winner grant. In an earlier round, they received $1,000 as the top shelter in Iowa. (By placing second in the country this last round, they did not receive the state grant.)
If you are not already voting for another shelter, please vote daily for the Denison City Pound in Denison, IA. Go to www.theanimalrescuesite.com and click on the Shelter Challenge tab on the right hand side. The pound is listed - I voted this morning and it came up. You can vote once each day from each computer. It costs nothing but a few second. The local Denison newspaper normally has stories in it about the challenge - their website is www.dbrnews.com.
Please email this link to anybody else you know as well - as Jeri notes, it takes a great deal of networking!!! Thank you for helping!!
Jean
Hi Jean,
I really appreciate hearing from you. It's really hard to tell how far out we are reaching and if everyone is behind us, so when I hear from someone like you it really makes me excited.
Yes, I have decided to go for this challenge too. I still need to come up with plenty of money to get the new area up and running and I would rather ask people for their votes than ask them to donate money. Everyone really seems to enjoy the challenge in the area too so we may as well run with it again. The newspaper and the radio and all the businesses around here have been absolutely fabulous to help me. I have the shell of the building, all the cement for the floors and outside runs done and even have a roof on. I need to get the furnace, wiring, plumbing, outside runs, and 16 gates that are 4 ft x 6 ft.. After that I will be able to start using it. As we go along then I can get the doggie doors, automatic waters and then sometime the roofs that go over the runs outside. It will be so nice to have a little more room.
The Frazier family have been such a help with this construction. They are giving me the best deal that they can and are doing great work. They are all animal lovers and have come up with some good ideas to make things even work better.
I would really appreciate all your help with the voting. We found out that it takes a lot of networking to really make it work. THANK YOU!!
Jeri Dreyer
