During the Civil War, the Sanitary Commission called for 250,000 "soldier comfortables"
to be made and sent to the troops.
These were to be 54"x84" and were to be made of "sturdy, durable materials". Our reproduction soldier comforts are made from reproduction cotton fabrics, often the scraps from dresses and shirts we make for the tent. We use simple period patterns, and we tie them just as the ladies' groups would have done during the War. $125 each. Call to place order.
